Every day is a good day to go fishing in our opinion! The waters surrounding Weipa are relatively untouched and bursting with a huge array of fish species, most of which are supersized. Far North Fishing Weipa specialise in all forms of fishing and target a large variety of species. So, while our fishing isn’t seasonal as such, there are certain times which are better, for particular types of fish.
To assist with your planning, we’re pleased to provide the below information on our ‘fishing seasons’. Please note the roads to Weipa are not accessible by car all year round, however you can fly in for our premium Weipa fishing charters. For more information contact Far North Fishing Weipa on 0417 098 732 or fishing@farnorthfishingweipa.com.au
Great for targeting all estuary species, which includes but is not limited to, Barramundi, Threadfin Salmon, Blue Salmon, Golden Snapper, Mangrove Jacks, Black Spotted and Gold Spotted Cod. Great time for Weipa fly fishing.
Fly fishing’s time to shine. Target our blue water species such as Mackerel, Tuna, Cobia, Golden Snapper, Queenfish, Coral Trout and a large variety of trevally species: GT, Golden, Bludger, Tea Leaf and Brassy.
The Weipa Barramundi season closes on October 7 each year, so this is your last chance in the year to target the big Barras. We know where to find them and will take you there. Season re-opens on 1 February.
The blue water fishing heats up again. These months are when the Permit are found in big numbers, on the beaches north and south of the Weipa township. Plus, all the other species listed here are available to catch this time of year.
